Interests

I have 15 years’ experience on water quality by using macroinvertebrate and physicochemical parameters. In addition, these experiences cover biological sampling preservation, transportation and analyses of samples as analysis of surface water, biota and sediment. Also I have 7 years’ experience of Biological monitoring, biotic indices and EQR in line with the EU WFD. I directed more than 10 theses, projects and given 3 classes on training on biological monitoring based on WFD requirements. Recently developed and executed a workshop on training biomonitoring with WWF, Turkey for the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs according to the WFD.

Our primary research interest as the Hydrobiology Lab. lies in furthering our understanding of the living dynamics of the freshwater. More specifically, our research focuses on how environment effects benthic macro invertebrates and their habitats directly or indirectly related to changes in indicator taxons. And also we focus on the molecular phylogeny of the subfamilies of Chironomidae, because molecular systematics is an essentially cladistic approach.

Aquatic Biomonitoring

Aquatic biomonitoring is the science of inferring the ecological condition of rivers, lakes, streams, and wetlands by examining the organisms that live there. While aquatic biomonitoring is the most common form of such biomonitoring, any ecosystem can be studied in this manner.

Benthic Macroinvertebrates

Freshwater benthic macroinvertebrates, or more simply “benthos”, are animals without backbones that are larger than ½ millimeter. These animals live on rocks, logs, sediment, debris and aquatic plants during some period in their life.

Molecular Phylogeny

Molecular phylogenetics is the branch of phylogeny that analysis hereditary molecular differences, mainly in DNA sequences, to gain information on an organism's evolutionary relationships. The result of a molecular phylogenetic analysis is expressed in a phylogenetic tree.
